London's Hottest Ticket: The NFL

Something that I don't like to see, an NFL regular season game being played outside the U.S.A. selling like hotcakes. I think it is ridiculous that the NFL seems to think it is a good idea to play meaningful NFL games outside of America. Sure, it's all about money and the NFL is just trying to broaden its appeal and create more revenue streams...blah, blah, blah. But what this is really doing is taking a game away from some team's most rabid and hardcore fans and moving the game to another country in a very clear marketing attempt. The NFL may be a league that can withstand some minor fan loss, but if the NFL increases - or arguably even maintains - it's current frequency of scheduling meaningful games outside of the U.S., I think fan dropoff in America would become noticeable. Since the beginnings of this plan is going well, that when that fan dropoff does become noticeable the league will scramble to try other things in an attempt to recoup the American fans but won't want to release it's foothold in other countries because by that time they will have established a fanbase abroad. In the end, American NFL fans will be the only entity that the NFL doesn't care about, the same fans that made the NFL the greatest sports league in the world up until that point.
