2-4 Chargers: Quick Assessment

(I posted this on one of the Charger forum's I frequent... I liked my summary so much I decided to c/p it here, I think it is a good synopsis of the Charger team right now:)

The Rams really exposed how bad the Charger receivers are and when Gates went out for a time, it was even more blatent.

The Rams only needed to go man-to-man against one of the NFL's most prolific passing offenses and all out blitz everyone else to essentially stop the Charger passing game. The Chargers offensive line was rendered helpless and because the Charger receivers are mostly ineffective the Rams were free to put as much pressure on Rivers as they saw fit...and they did. The run game has almost been abandoned in every game because the Chargers are behind in almost every game...but even when the Chargers try and run the ball, there has yet to be any sign of an explosive run game....always seem like a no gain or a tough 5-7 yard rush on every attempt.

The defense is a joke. Its easy to finger the special teams and the errors they have committed this season but the defense has gotten a free ride and is easily as much to blame as the rest of the team. Sam Bradford was 3-7 for 26 yards in the second half against the Chargers...but the Rams were playing to not lose and not to win and the Charger defense certainly helped them out. All the Charger defense had to do is stop Steven Jackson from getting a first down ... in 5 plays ... all runs, the Charger defense allowed Jackson to get 28 yards...over 5 yard average when you needed a stop. A complete embarrassment, imo.

Special teams ... can we even say they played better than the previous games? Ok, we will because only a field goal was blocked this game...there's the bright spot...but the dark cloud is that the special teams of the Chargers continue to handcuff this team.

Chargers are in a crappy division...which is really the only thing they have going for them at this time...
